ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF FARMER FIELD SCHOOLS (FFS) IN ARMENIA

In 2007, considering the experience Green Lane has in the field of establishment and development of farmer groups and cooperatives, the organization was involved in a new project aimed to establish and develop Farmer Field Schools in Armenia. As a part of RESCAD Project (Project for Development of Rural Enterprises and Small-Scale Commercial Agriculture in Armenia, Government of Armenia & World Bank), this new project is coordinated by the Agricultural Reform Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the RA Ministry of Agriculture.

In 2007, under this new project, 8 Farmer Field Schools in two regions - Lori and Tavoush - were established. The FFSs focus is on the integrated management of production. Upon the end of the project, all FFS members received certificates for their active participation in the training course. All the groups are now successfully running their businesses. Currently, we work towards linking the newly established FFSs to different local and international organizations interested in agricultural and rural development to ensure mutually beneficial cooperation between them. Marketing of the fruits and vegetables produced by these groups is another direction of our activities. more...

ASSISTANCE TO 'TOLORS' MILK MARKETING COOPERATIVE

In February 2005, the Action Against Hunger International Foundation active in Syunik marz was working with three milk producing farmer groups in the village of Tolors. They marketed their milk through the milk marketing cooperative.

The Foundation turned to Green Lane with a request to assist the cooperative in overcoming the tough financial situation at the time. In early spring, Green Lane started the cooperative's ''recuperation'' program entitled ''Organizational Development of Tolors Cooperative''.

During the program implementation period, the main efforts were directed to resolving the general and financial management problems of the organization. As a result, within a six-month period, the activities of the cooperative were abruptly improved. more in GL Newsletter (PDF)...

On September 14, 2006, a ceremonial opening of a new milk marketing cooperative took place in the village of Shaghat, Syunik marz. Shaghat is the first farmer organization created by Green Lane.

Excited from the success with the Tolors cooperative, Action Against Hunger International Foundation suggested Green Lane to carry out a survey in 9 villages of the Sissian area of Syunik marz during July-August of 2005. As a result of the survey, potential locations for establishing milk marketing co-operatives, Shaghat and the adjacent Balak and Mutsk villages, were selected. more in GL Newsletter (PDF)...
